For example, a 550x460mm part (thickness:10mm), it could be processed by 10mm raw material also it could be process by a more thicker raw material is 20mm.What’s different?
For 10mm raw material, it’s the most simplest way since there is no allowances leaving, so no need grind the surface, and the material cost is only $15. In this way, you will get a rough part with a poor surface, since it was made by the raw material directly, it may has some scratch mark or small damage leave the surface.
For 20mm raw material, the cost is about $30, and it need add 2 extra process to finish it.
1) Extra Grinding process for surface: $15
2) Extra Grinding process for thickness: $15
For this process, you will obtain a very accurate and shiny surface. But the price different between 2 raw material is up to 15+15+15=$45. That’s why a prefect part always need a higher cost.
For our opinions, 10mm raw material is more suitable to some parts which it’s not so important. For some exposed parts, such as machine plate, it should be used a more thicker material to obtain a good surface, It’s expensive and it’s important to make your equipment more prefect.
